In need of a short family break, I wanted something focused around the outdoors, where the children and Cookie the pug could run around, be safe, but with this changeable weather I wasn’t sure sleeping in a tent for two nights was a good idea.
Woodland Shepherd Hut
I started researching ideas on the internet and came across lots of shepherd hut websites and tepee tent locations, not all dog friendly or too far to drive for the weekend.
My search was continuing into most nights and then I found the most amazing website, Wild Woodland Retreat, a family run farm in Canterbury offering two shepherds huts on a private farm.
As we arrived we drove past the owners house, along a bushy path, down a hill to a small car park and fields of open space, peace and calm.
We parked up, unpacked the car and walked 100 yards up a small hill. There in the woods amongst the trees was our home for the next two nights, the Woodland Shepherds Hut, blue on the outside and decorated blue and white inside, with the most perfect little kitchen.
- Fizz in the fields
- Cookie enjoying glamping
- Tea anyone
Inside was a double bed and space for the kids to sleep underneath the double bed, which was high up, a lovely little bathroom with a hot running shower and a log burner to keep the chill away. I had pre-ordered breakfast for Saturday morning so this was waiting for us in the fridge. There was tea, coffee, hot chocolate and lovely fresh bread.
In the woods
Surrounding the Woodland Shepherds Hut, were fields, nature walks and two rope swings hanging from the trees, the children felt free and safe, they could run around outside and didn’t need to worry about distributing other families, it was time to relax and open the fizz.
With all the essentials inside the shepherds hut, we could enjoy the outdoors but have a lovely cup of warm tea, put on the log burner in the evening and sleep in a warm bed with a duvet.
Glamping was the perfect family break for two nights away, I would definitely return again.
If you love the outdoors this is the perfect family break, to relax, unwind and spend time together.
